The camp is clean and modern, recently renovated dining hall and passageway is a great addition! The food is great and the rooms are nice, I've gone with my church group multiple times and it's a fantastic experience!
An amazing facility to connect with the Lord. They have dorms, hotel rooms if desired, and even a Clergy retreat building. The dining facility is top notch!!
When I was 15 and lost in our busy world my friend invited me to youth camp here. We had more fun than ever. And the property has hundreds of feet of lake shore beach. And many water and boating choices. They just upgraded in a huge way adding and new dining hall and a game room in the old dining space. Complete with a snack and drinks shop. This is a place where GOD meets his people. Shares his mighty love and saves those who seek him. I was saved here and many others have also. This is a great place for all events and get together. I come 2 times a year for kids camp to now be a counselor and for our christian Motorcycle Association state rally every year.
This wasn't even the ONLY incident in the water observed: Teens and young adults (college age) were refusing to let children play on the water trampoline, to the point of viciously kicking at the children trying to climb up, till they were crying and one had a nose bleed. When I pointed out this atrocious scene to the lifeguard, the lifeguard shrugged. When I pressed for action, the lifeguard shook her head "no". Some of the kids left, some sat on the beach looking defeated as they waited for their parents to come pick them up. I said I'd swim with them for protection, but they were too scared to go back into the water while the teens/young adults were in there. For this to happen anywhere is an absolute disgrace, but at a Christian camp? And this happened at Family Camp with non-staff adults about. What do you think is happening when there is ONLY staff and no parents at Teen and Kids camp? Terrifying to think about. I will be warning all my friends to avoid this place!
I went 3 years, because my family kept convincing me to come back, saying that the camp had fixed the issues. I finally had to outright refuse them, because things haven't gotten better at all. Extremely judgmental staff/volunteers. I'd say about 50% of them gave me crummy looks, rude comments, and even one who outright refused to serve me. All because I wore LGBTQIA+ friendly clothes (modest attire even) and LGBTQIA+ friendly buttons on my bag. I also saw them give judgmental looks and rude comments to people with low cut shirts/skirts. Judging based on appearance? What kind of Christian place is this?
Beautiful space with plenty of room and many outdoor sports and activities to partake in. There are also numerous indoor activities as well.
If that was all, I wouldn't post a one-star review, but the last straw was the complete lack of empathy and training from their lifeguards. Teen girl was being forced underwater by a teen guy right in front of lifeguard and lifeguard let it go on until girl was no longer yelling, but was crying and screaming. Lifeguard stopped it by saying "That's enough" and then let the girl crawl out of the water crying by herself, as the guy continued to play in the water. I hadn't been able to get to them in time to rescue the girl from almost being drowned, but I was able to see that she got looked after, as it traumatized her.
