Bank fees for credit card transactions are a part of doing business, if a business has an issue with the fees they have to pay on small purchases then they need to have a policy on no cards on purchases under a certain amount. Of course, if they had such a policy they would have lost my sale today, then again because of their reaction today I won't be back to buy the books I was considering buying so they lost all future sales I may make.
At first the service was great but when I went to check out they gave me a hard time for using my bank card for a small purchase (less than $2). One of the clerks made some comment about the fees. I don't usually carry cash, it's the 21st century, a lot of people don't.
